Applique Printing: Custom Applique Designs for Apparel

Applique Printing

Applique is a specialty embroidery type that is available upon request. Applique printing is the process of applying pre-cut pieces of fabric by embroidering the outer edges of the fabric with a satin stitch. This printing method is extremely popular for schools and we have used this process for schools like UBC, BCIT and SFU. Recently we have seen more and more companies switch to this popular printing method.

Applique Printing Benefits

Applique printing is a great way to achieve a varsity-styled look on your garments. Typically applique is used on hoodies and crewneck sweatshirts

  • Applique prints achieve a varsity-styled finish.
  • Applique is a popular and traditional method for varsity-styled block letters. We see applique printing very frequently on greek wear and university organizations.
  • High durability.
  • Similar to embroidery, applique printing is also a high-quality print method which results in a lasting print.

Limitations of Applique Printing

  • Applique works best on large elements
  • Due to the nature of the applique, it only can work well on large elements like large fonts. For instance, university clubs typically will do an applique of their school acronym large on the front: UBC, SFU BCIT, etc
  • Applique printing is more expensive than regular embroidery
  • Since applique printing is a multi-step process, it is more expensive than direct embroidery. If you are looking to save on cost, direct embroidery may be a better option.

Applique Printing Care Instructions

Washing Guidelines: Cold Water, Inside Out

Drying Guidelines: Hang dry, or low tumble dry, if the applique gets caught on a sharp object like a zipper, it may cause the letters to tear.

Iron: Do not iron the applique logo directly. Flip the garment inside out and avoid any steaming features.

Bleach + Dry Cleaning: We recommend staying away from these options!
